ABOUT PATHRIGHT MEDICAL

Our Mission

PathRight Medical was formed in 2015 to meaningfully improve the lives of men with Peyronie’s disease or those with side effects associated with urological surgeries or chronic disease.

To achieve this mission, PathRight Medical developed RestoreX in cooperation with Mayo Clinic.

The History and Need for Innovation

RestoreX was invented by Dr. Landon Trost, a Peyronie’s Disease and Men’s Health Specialist at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Trost had previously recommended various, 1st generation penile traction therapy devices to his patients. However, after treating hundreds of men, he was dissatisfied with existing devices because they:

  • required patients to wear the devices for 3-9 hours daily
  • caused pinching and irritation of sensitive areas or blisters from suction from some devices
  • were difficult to put on and properly tension
  • resulted in limited amounts of traction
  • did not allow additional lengthening during treatment
  • did not allow for counter-bending (important for Peyronie’s disease)

As a result, his patients had a difficult time complying with the required regimen of existing devices. And even when wearing the devices for extended periods of time, they frequently failed to achieve results because of inherent designs issues.

However, Dr. Trost recognized that traction had been used successfully in other disease states, including with scoliosis, orthopedic injuries, and for things such as teeth straightening (i.e., braces). He realized that many of the problems with 1st generation devices could be fixed through development of a new type of device.

The Goal

In order to develop a better system, it needed to solve a few key issues with other devices. Specifically, the new traction device would need to:

  • improve the clamping system to allow for larger traction forces
  • allow counter-bending
  • be customizable for each patient
  • continually extend throughout a treatment session
  • provide feedback to let the user know when appropriate traction was being applied
  • minimize the treatment time required
  • have proven clinical benefits
  • be easy to use

The Result

With these goals in mind, RestoreX introduced several innovative changes to improve outcomes.

First, the clamp system was redesigned to allow for a broader displacement of forces on the head of the penis. This allowed for more force to be applied comfortably and didn’t require clamping of the areas of the penis which were susceptible to developing Peyronie’s disease.

Second, the device allowed for customization and counter-bending. This allowed the user the ability to move the clamp based on direction and location of curvature and provided greater force to the diseased area of the penis.

Third, the device allowed for ongoing lengthening during use and included an indicator line to let the user know that they were doing treatment correctly. This provided the appropriate amount of traction throughout a treatment session.

The result of these changes was the first traction device which demonstrated improvements in length and curve in men with Peyronie’s disease with as little as 30 minutes daily.  Since its introduction, Restorex has been more researched than any other traction device and remains the only device developed by a Board Certified Urologist specializing in Men’s Health and Peyronie’s disease.
